LORAIN, Ohio (WJW) — One of the Lorain police officers shot in an ambush has died, the Lorain Police Department reported Thursday. Officer Phillip Wagner, a 35-year-old who was hired with the department in 2022, died Thursday surrounded by those he loved at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to the department.
Officials have announced that the memorial service for Lorain Police Department Officer Phillip C. Wagner, who was killed during an ambush, will take place July 30 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
Two officers, Phillip Wagner and Brent Payne, were shot several times. A third officer, Peter Gale, was shot in the hand.
Wagner died Thursday after being shot in an ambush attack. Two other officers were wounded, with one suffering serious injuries.
