Fire grows to over 1,600 acres at Black Canyon of Gunnison

Nearly 200 firefighters are working the South Rim fire at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. A lightning storm Thursday sparked numerous fires.
The Deer Creek and South Rim fires are burning in Montrose County, with the South Rim Fire estimated at 3,500 acres as of Sunday morning. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in southwestern Colorado is closed due to wildfires on both rims of the canyon.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis has verbally made a disaster declaration as several wildfires rip through more than 10,000 acres on the Western Slope and in Utah near the Colorado border.
