Athletics closer Mason Miller had thrown 48 pitches in the first two games of the series against the Phillies. But hanging onto 5-4 lead in the ninth inning Sunday, the A’s went back to their closer to try to end their losing streak at 11 games.

Willie MacIver had a tiebreaking single for his first big league hit in a two-run, eighth-inning rally, then capped his debut by throwing out a runner attempting to steal for the final out as the Athletics beat Philadelphia 5-4 to stop an 11-game slide and the Phillies' nine-game winning streak.
