A convicted killer in Utah who developed dementia while on death row for 37 years is competent enough to be executed, a state judge ruled late Friday.Ralph Leroy Menzies, 67, was sentenced to die in 1988 for killing Utah mother of three Maurine Hunsaker.

It's been nearly four decades since a Utah woman was kidnapped and killed. Her family says after the judge’s decision on Friday ruling the killer competent to be executed, justice is being served.

A Utah state judge ruled Friday that a man sentenced to death row in 1988 who developed dementia remains competent enough to be executed. The prisoner, Ralph Leroy Menzies, 67, was convicted of killing a mother of three and has been on death row for 37 years.
