Only a few weeks ago, President Donald Trump seemed confident a deal was days away that would end the fighting in Gaza, secure the release of hostages and allow aid to flow into an enclave where people are starving to death.

Humanitarian aid groups have warned for months that Gaza is nearing famine. Israel, which controls the entry of aid into the enclave, has severely restricted access—tightening constraints even further since the collapse of the last ceasefire in March. From March to mid-May, no aid was allowed into Gaza.

Israel and the U.S. recalled their negotiating teams, throwing the future of the negotiations into further uncertainty.

Cease-fire negotiations between Israel, Hamas, and the U.S. have broken down, with President Trump’s special envoy blaming Hamas for the impasse. Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is rapidly escalating.

While U.S., Qatari and Egyptian mediators “have made a great effort, Hamas does not appear to be coordinated or acting in good faith,” Trump envoy Steve Witkoff said.

The leaders of Israel and Syria have agreed to a ceasefire days after major Israeli strikes​, a U.S. envoy said Friday, as he urged all sides in war-torn Syria to lay down arms.

Ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israel are expected to resume next week as the war in Gaza nears it’s 22nd month and experts warn Palestinians are on the brink of famine.

Syria and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire, US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack said on Friday. The deal was “embraced” by Turkey, Jordan and other neighboring countries, the ambassador, who also serves as the US special envoy to Syria, said in a post on X.

The U.S. has withdrawn from Doha ceasefire talks after Hamas' response showed a "lack of desire" for an agreement. Israel also pulled negotiators amid escalating demands.
