WASHINGTON ( NewsNation) — President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will visit central Texas on Friday for a first-hand look at the destruction caused by deadly floodwaters in the early morning hours of the Fourth of July holiday. The disaster has claimed at least 120 lives, and more than 160 people remain missing.

For months, President Donald Trump and his administration have floated the idea of doing away with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). “I think, frankly, FEMA is not good,” he told reporters in his first week back in the Oval Office.

Republicans, such as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, have largely responded to the crisis by demonstrating loyalty to Donald Trump and praising him for his federal aid. However, disgruntled citizens have called out Noem for her performative empathy toward the people in crisis.
