In a particularly shocking moment on Thursday, California Senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed, restrained, and handcuffed during a press conference being held by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem when he attempted to question her on the Trump administration’s response to the unrest in Los Angeles.
Locked in an online showdown with Trump over the L.A. protests, Newsom is styling himself as an internet-era champion of the left.
Trump deployed 4,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines to LA against the wishes of Newsom and Bass. Newsom sued the Trump administration, saying they unlawfully "trampled over" California’s sovereignty when they federalized the California National Guard.
The curfew extends to sections of downtown Los Angeles where protests have turned into instances of vandalism and looting.
The California Governor has sued the U.S. President over the mobilization of the National Guard, calling it “an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”
