It was a Wimbledon to remember for Cameron Norrie, who, for just the second time in his career, reached the quarter-finals of the Championships. Hopes of a maiden Grand Slam title were slashed by the formidable Carlos Alcaraz, who put him to the sword on Centre Court, winning 2-6, 3-6, 3-6.

Norrie’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals were crushed in just an hour and 39 minutes by the defending champion.

Norrie won their last meeting on the clay of Rio de Janeiro two years ago, when Alcaraz was just a teenager. Now, this lad from Murcia in southeastern Spain is looking to add his name to the honours board at the All England Club for the third time, aged just 23. Only a fool would bet against him at this juncture.
