The Sony WH-1000XM6 noise-canceling headphones fix what was wrong with last year’s model and make a compelling claim for the title of best premium headphones.

The NC/AMB button (noise cancellation and ambient noise mode) also pulls double duty. Press it twice to Quick Access a chosen app (Amazon Music, Spotify, or Endel). You can program a second app to launch with three taps, but you’ll need the Sony Sound Connect app (previously called Headphone Connect) to configure that.

My evaluation loaner showed up later than expected, so I’m not ready to give the WH-1000XM6 the full review treatment. However, with two days of use, I can give you my first impressions, which are very favorable. Sony has clearly done it again.
