Eight years after Girls ended, Lena Dunham is returning to the small screen with Netflix ‘s Too Much. The Golden Globe winner recently explained why she took an “intentional break” from acting and public life after facing backlash around several controversies involving her breakout HBO comedy-drama, which ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017.

The sudden changes in her life came after Girls concluded with its sixth season in 2017, and a rocky transition back to life after the show's mega success — and the harsh criticism and body-shaming she was subject to while it was airing. In an interview with The Times, she recalled feeling "fatigued" after working on the HBO series for five years.

After nearly eight years, Lena Dunham will return to TV this July with “Too Much,” a Netflix rom-com she created with husband Luis Felber. The “Girls” helmer said her long break from television was done by design. “I definitely took an intentional break,” she told The Times in an interview published Saturday.
