TikTok has announced “Footnotes,” its own take on the community notes features that started on Twitter and have been spreading to other social networks. As elsewhere, it’s a crowd-sourced approach to moderation — TikTok says contributors will be able to “add relevant information to content on our platform.”

TikTok said it will open access to start contributing to Footnotes in the coming months. U.S. users can apply to be a contributor as of today. They’ll have to meet the eligibility requirements of having been on the platform for more than 6 months, are at least 18 years old, and have no recent history of violating TikTok’s community guidelines.

TikTok is joining the ranks of social networks with Community Notes programs, which allow users to add context, corrections, and additional information to posts on the platform. The new feature is called Footnotes,
