William Horcoff was one of several players with notable hockey connections selected in the 2025 draft. Among them was Arizona State University center Cullen Potter, selected in the first round (No. 32) by the Calgary Flames. He is the son of U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Jenny Potter.

Shawn Horcoff translated a standout four seasons at Michigan State into a long NHL career, playing 1,008 games, mostly with the Edmonton Oilers. He joined the Wings as director of player development in 2016 and was promoted to assistant GM in 2022. He also served as GM of the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins selected left winger Will Horcoff of the NCAA’s Michigan Wolverines with the No. 24 overall selection in the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday night.
