Video shared on social media showed thick black smoke in the air rising near apartment buildings on East 95th Street on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. There have so far been no reports of injuries.

FDNY crews put out a large fire at an apartment building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Friday morning. The blaze was reported at 305 E. 95th St. around 10 a.m. The fire on the roof extended to the cockloft and into three penthouses on the top floor of the building.

Hazmat teams have been deployed to a federal government building in New York City after envelopes containing a mysterious white powder were discovered, authorities said. Just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, the New York City Fire Department received a report of white powder on the 9th floor of 26 Federal Plaza, a spokesperson told The Independent.

Suspicious white powder that forced the ICE field office in New York City to evacuate is not hazardous, the FBI said Friday.
