As President Trump takes aim at cashless bail in a federal crackdown on crime, he signed an executive order Monday threatening to withhold funding from Washington, D.C., and other cities that refuse to end the practice.

President Donald J. Trump signed an order Monday threatening to pull federal funding and grants “to the maximum extent permitted by law” in states with “cashless bail” statutes.

"This is a waste of public resources and a threat to public safety," the president said of the bail reform policy on Monday.
