West Virginia National Guard troops have begun to arrive in Washington, DC, to assist with President Donald Trump’s crime crackdown in the nation’s capital, a defense official told CNN on Tuesday.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., said, “There’s no basis, no authority for Donald Trump to potentially try to drop federal troops into the city of Chicago.”

Some National Guard troops deployed in Washington, D.C. under President Donald Trump’s orders have begun carrying firearms.
