A U.N.-backed group’s finding is the most dire assessment of the enclave’s deepening hunger crisis since the war began.

The leading international authority on food crises says the “worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out in Gaza" and it predicts “widespread death” without immediate action.

The alert came as the total number of Palestinians killed since Israel launched its assault passed 60,000, the health ministry in the enclave said Tuesday.
