Hurricane Flossie has strengthened into a powerful Category 3 hurricane off Mexico's southwestern Pacific coast with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph (185 kph), according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Hurricane Flossie has strengthened to a Category 2 storm off Mexico's Pacific coast. The National Hurricane Center reports the storm has maximum sustained winds of 100 mph.

Barry, the second named storm of this year's Atlantic hurricane season, became a tropical depression by Sunday night, when it made landfall shortly before 11 p.m. ET. It made landfall over Mexico's east coast about 15 miles south-southeast of Tampico, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami.
