Detroit’s offense had a dismal day against White Sox starter Sean Burke, who fired six shutout innings until Wenceel Pérez finally broke through with a solo homer in the seventh. Pérez has three home runs in 32 plate appearances since being activated from the injured list on May 27.

The Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in 10 innings Thursday on Tim Elko’s walk-off single, earning a split in the 4-game series.

The 28-year-old eventually gave up two runs, and although the Tigers clawed back, the White Sox stole the show in the 10th inning. The Tigers lost, 3-2, in the finale of the four-game series at Rate Field, settling for a split. In the bottom of the 10th, Tim Elko hit a walk-off single off right-handed reliever Beau Brieske.
