Typhoon Danas tore through Taiwan's west coast late Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The powerful storm killed two people, injured nearly 500, and caused widespread power outages across the country.

Most typhoons come ashore on the island’s sparsely populated east coast, but Danas scraped its crowded western edge. Nearly 300,000 households had no power on Monday.
